Power but.. no power? HELP!

Hello,

This is my first post here. I have been reading the posts for some time and love this site.

Anyway, I just built my first computer and I am having a boot problem. I know there are ton's of threads dealing with this issue but there are a few issues that are different..

SOYO Dragon P4 Lite
Intel P4 2.4

Power to all fans work.
CD Drive works.
Heat sink on Video card heats up.
Power to HD ok.

No video. when I unplug the monitor it says NO SIGNAL when I plug the monitor in it goes into sleep mode (amber light instead of green).

NO heat coming from the CPU heat sink. Cold as can be.

No power to the Floppy drive. I plug the floppy power cord in and nothing. I use the extended power cord from the cd and I tried the extended cord from the HD and the floppy will do nothing. I tried a spare floppy that I know works and nothing.

That seems weird since the HD has power and the CD has power.

All the fans turn just fine..

It seem that the CPU is not responding at all..

I don't know if it is a no power problem or if thE MOBO is shot..

All the components are brand new...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried reseating the graphics card? Have you tried resetting the CMOS? What brand power supply do you have? Is the connector (if needed) plugged into the graphics card from the PSU? Does that mobo have onboard graphics? Have you tried it?

Sorry for all the questions, I don't have a definite answer.

Yes, video was reseated. I even tried a known good video card.

CMOS was reset, nothing.

I am not sure of the power supply brand. I was a case/power supply combo from Tiger.

No, onboard graphics. As for a power cord for the video card, there isn't one.

Look on a sticker on the psu for what brand it is. If a known good card worked then I would say it is the mobo, and I would RMA it. If there is a bad powersupply in there (such as Deer, see: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=98650 ) I would replace that as well. It would probably be worth sticking around to see if anyone else has a solution.

I forgot first time, Welcome to PCMech

The known good video card returned no good results.. Still no video..

The CPU heat sink in cold. Like no action.
The thing that really is weird is the POWER to the floppy is dead. A good floppy drive did not work when hooked to the power supply.

All drive work except the floppy. No response from the floppy.. Could be the MB or power supply.. Dang this is frustrating..

Thanks for the welcome. )

Yea, I followed that link from another post and followed the instructions.. No help.

What I mean is... When I power up the CD gets power.. The HD gets power.. The fans kick on... the video card heat sink heats up... but the floppy is dead.. No power or lights.

Personally I would RMA the mobo, (have you tried powering it up with no ram, does it beep? Is a PC Speaker plugged in) and if the PSU is on the bad list I would a new one (probably not in that order).

I have tried powering it up without memory. It does not beep. It gives a little crackle sound in the speaker.. Barely audible.

I am kinda new.. What does RMA the motherboard mean?

And what order would you go in?

Follow the troubleshooting instructions by HAL9000 in this thread. You must remove the motherboard from the case for this technique to be worthwhile doing...you're trying to see if the motherboard is grounding out to the case.

Did you try another power supply yet? I just saw that you got the power supply and case from TigerDirect...if it's their house brand there's a chance that it's defective. A power supply can send some power to the drives and motherboard but not be able to power up the system.

And since SOYO motherboards are now made by ECS there is a chance that it's defective too.

RMA means Return Material Authorization, in other words get a replacement. Firstly what is the brand of the power supply?

I am not sure of the brand of the power supply..

I will try another power supply.

Then I will try another motherboard.

I will check back and let you know the verdict.

Thanks for all the help!

P.S.

Soyo was giving a heck of a deal on this board..

If it is not a name brand I would strongly reccomend a Enlight 360W, I believe it is only about $32? on Newegg.

No problem about the help.

May be your power supply isnt strong enough maybe its a 200 watts or something, or maybe defective, i recomend that you'd buy another one like whatsThisBoxFor? said
