What OS are you using?
Are you using a modem or broadband? Anything else running in background when you're playing? Have you defragged your hard drive recently? Exactly which Radeon are you using? Cricket

Does the slow motion last a long time (so that you're forced to reboot) or does it go back to normal speed?
How's your case cooling? Cricket

r.e. Slow Motion
Usually only lasts a short time, never had to reboot to get rid of it.
Case does run a little hot since I added ATI Radeon 9800 pro card, but the problem existed before that. I thought adding a better graphics card would help (had onboard 64mb shared before). But the ATI is 128 mb and I would have thought that would have taken care of any graphics issues. |

What motherboard are you using? And what brand and wattage is the power supply?

What settings are you using Halo with? That processor is a little old, if you have the settings bumped up too high then there will be noticeable slowdowns throughout the game.

There's also the possiblitly that the weird behavior is caused by the ECS motherboard. Is the computer overclocked?

If the "slow motion effect" may also be described as "matrix lag" (gameplay not choppy, just slow), then consider the following:
1. Does your processor have Speedstep technology or something similar? 2. Is your processor overclocked? 3. Is the fan on your processor correctly installed and on tightly? If you answered yes to any of the questions, this is your solution: 1. Add more cooling fans (i.e. Fan blowing out near top of case, fan blowing in near bottom) or turn off speedstep feature (warning!! very dangerous if your processor overheats already!) 2. Underclock your processor to regular/slower speeds 3. re-install processor fan, use thermal gel if needed NOTE: "matrix-style lag" is caused by heat issues and the processor is underclocking to prevent heat damage. If your framerates drop (i.e. experiencing choppy gaming), consider the following: 1. video card is too slow/inefficient 2. Harddrive or processor is working on something else 3. RAM can't keep up to processor (i.e. overclocking by changing multiplier) 4.video card is overclocked too high (usually causes total lockups for a few seconds) Note: there are many, many, many other reasons for this type of lag happening. these are usually the first to pop up. Seeing as how you have a radeon 9800, #1 shouldnt be a problem. #2 also shouldnt be a problem seeing as how you close all other programs beforehand. #3 I doubt because Pentium multipliers are locked from factory (though with some solder, it can be unlocked) and #4 shouldnt exist if you have a radeon 9800 and are happy with it. |
