P4 Hsf

hi there,

I have a P4 3GHz "Prescott" cpu and I wanted to know if there are any hsf's out there that are way quieter than the stock P4 hsf and provide better cooling too. My gf's case just gets too hot.

What dBA would be considered quiet.

I was at Best Buy today and found a computer with comparable components to the one I put together and they are a whole lot quieter and cooler than mine. I looked at a Gateway 500GR computer and was trying to see what hsf they used, anybody got a clue?

I still want/need to put a fan or two in the rear for pulling hot air out and a couple in the front to let cool air in.

Anyways temps I guess seem to be normal from what I've read on the net.
60°C under load and 50°idle

you might look at the zalman fanless heatsinks. the bad thing about prebuilt comps is that many times they use proprietary parts which means you cant easily swap in and out.

how do they cool the cpu without a fan?

won't that overheat and damage the cpu?
