Bios Update?
Ok, so I want to update my bios which is supposed to fix the temp readings because right now my CPU is running at 7 C. Here's the catch, my floppy drive doesn't work. So, my question is...can I make a bootable bios update CD? Would I need any certain software to do so? I've never updated a bios before so detailed steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

I had to update my BIOS a little while ago and it was my first time as well. I was intimidated at first, but the process turned out to be pretty easy. In my case all I had to do was search the Dell website for the appropriate BIOS update for my laptop model. The instructions on the website then asked me to download a small file and write it to an empty floppy disk. I shut down the computer, put in the floppy, rebooted and followed the instructions on the screen. Easy!
I suggest you visit the website of your computer's manufacturer, or if you built the computer yourself, the website of your motherboard manufacturer. Just download the lastest BIOS version for your mobo and you should be ok. Just make sure you follow any instructions you are given. |

7 degrees? Are you sure your not running a system with vapor phase cooling?
J/KAt any rate, you will need Nero Burning ROM or a comparable burning program. You could use the freeware CDBurnerXP Pro but i am not sure if it supports floppy emulation. Rather than write a detailed tutorial in this small space, you can find a good one here Good luck!

I've got a working floppy drive now. Now my next question, does anyone know if I have to copy a flash utility along with the bin file on the bootable floppy? I've already reformatted the floppy as a boot disk and have copied the bin file to it. I have a Chaintech VNF3-250 if that helps any. Again this is my first time updating a BIOS and obviously need the help.

Sorry I keep bugging you guys with this, but I have a few more questions:
1) I followed those instructions and did the alt+F2 and it goes to "decompress ASDFLASH.EXE, please wait..." I've waited for nearly 25 minutes and it doesn't go anywhere. Is it supposed to take long? 2) On the chaintech website, it lists two seperate VNF3-250 boards. The first has a 2.0 with AMD Support Sempron CPU, and the second has just a 2.0? I don't know if these are two completely different boards or if they're one in the same First board bios: http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/D...No=4&PISNo=276 Second http://www.chaintechusa.com/tw/eng/D...No=4&PISNo=266 Thanks again guys.
