Motherboqrd problem?

I'm trying to sort out my parents PC for them, and would appreciate any assistance you can give - my best guess here is that there is some kind of motherboard problem, but I'm fqr from sure (or that competent!!!)

When the machine is turned on, there is a continuos beep and no display on the monitor. I have counted the beeps up to 20, before powering down (so my assumption is that it isn't a set number of beeps, but continous beeps). I have been unable to identify the BIOS/BIOS Chip.

I have removed the Network Card and Dialup modem card. I have also swapped the video card. None of these have helped. I have plugged the hard drive into another machine and it has booted ok, so it is not a hard drive problem. The monitor has also been successfully tested on another machine.

Any recommendations on what I should/could test/do next?

Sorry for the lack of specs - as I said, it's not my machine and I'm not that sure of the machine specs.

Thanks

Thanks - I've had a look - I presume that in order to run it I need to be able to put it on the machine that I cannot currently startup.......

I'm really struggling with the full specs - it's not my machine and I cannot boot it up.

However, have been able to find the original receipt which shows the following specs.....PIII 600, MIDIATX (??), 128MB RAM, 20GB Hard Drive, SBS15 speakers, VM71RDA-E02 Monitor.

I've emailed the vendor with serial number to see if they can provide full spec.

That many continuing beeps is used by the Award bios.
It signals ram problems mostly but it can be the video card ( they've got a seperate code for video problems but it can be this one as well ).
Since you've laready cleared the video card it looks like it's the memory.
I'm guessing your folks need to repalce their memory with another pc100/133 stick from Crucial.

Thanks PAM - You were spot on - good call - I've switched the memory and the PC has booted up (unfortunately I only had a 32MB to replace it with) - but hey - now I know what the problem is, I have something to work with.

The memory card I pulled out is "double sided" "DIMM128MBSD100" - is this only fit for the bin now? I presume that there is nothing I can use it for? I might chuck it in an old machine and see if I get any success, but at best, even if it works, I presume that it will be unreliable.......

Thanks again - your help and expertise is appreciated......

Glad it worked out.
Unless you want to gold-wash it and use it for jewelry the ram had reached the end of it's lifespan.
