Thumbs down Removing my slave

I just recently put a slave hard drive on this computer, which came from an old computer that died in a storm. We are planning on getting the dead computer fixed. So i went to take out my slave, and The computer then couldn't find any HD at all:
When I put the slave back, it started working just fine again:
My hypotheses:
I had the cable setup:
----Motherboard
|
----Slave
|
----Master

Is it that the computer tries to find the slave, and when it cant, it just gives up? (when i take the hd out, I also switch to a one hookup cable also, but i dont think that matters)

Hypothesis two: Both HD's came set up as cable select. i set respective HD's to master and slave. Do i need to change back to CS?

Hopefully you geniuses can help me out. Thanks in advance.

Send a message via AIM to juicelooser
You'll want to either set the master jumper to "Master without a slave" or "Cable Select"

Set them both for Cable Select(if both drives support it) and the proper cable, 40 pin/80 wire

I believe that the problem and solution is the same as in your other recent thread.
