USB 1.0 To USB 2.0 USING PCI CARD

Can someone please tell me, if my Mboard only has USB1.0 interfaces on the board itself. If I install a USB 2.0 4 port PCI card will any hardware (that supports USB 2.0) pluged into it run at the faster USB 2.0 speed, or will it just work at the USB 1.0 speed.

Will adding the USB 2.0 4 port PCI card into an empty PCI slot on my Mboard just give me 4 extra ports that will only run at USB 1.0 speed.

If I want to run USB 2.0 on my pc does it mean I will have to fit a new Mboard with onboard USB 2.0 to be able to use my USB 2.0 printer/scaner/card reader at true USB 2.0 speed.

Hope you follow what I am asking.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to PC Mech,

If you insert an USB 2.0 card, and have a USB 2.0 capable operating system installed, then you can use the USB 2.0 speeds (480 mbps). The 12mbps are only limited to your motherboards USB ports (which should be USB 1.1, not 1.0). Onboard USB 1.1 does not limit anything extra installed.
