Go SATA for the new hard drive. That is the standard for hard drives right now. Nearly all opticals are still made for PATA, so keep them free of hard drives in order to connect your opticals there.
Maxtor and Western Digital are very good brands for hard drives. CD-burner: LiteOn 52x32x52 DVD-ROM: Plextor PX-116A2 RJ
