New hard drive not being recognised

Just installed a new HD and it ain't being recognised???? what do i need to do to get it to work???
how do i format it.... please just go thorugh everything i need to do.
Had 80gig and i just bought another 160 if that helps. Both S-ata

does the BIOS detect the hard drive? if it does just go into disk management and format it.

Before formatting, you need to create a partition. You do that in Disk Management as well.
