Guides to Overclocking

These threads provide the most indepth info on the subject of how to overclock. Suggested reading for all newbies BEFORE you post a question.

Tin Canary's guide to high fsb on AMD systems

redfallon's guide to high fsb on 800fsb P4 systems

deeppow's excellent overview of overclocking in general and AMD specifics

A64 Memory Dividers

The definitive A64 DFI Overclocking Guide Added 2-8-06

Here are two links to more recent technology. They both deal with OC'ing the Intel C2D and C2Q processors. Thanks to shadowpr for posting these.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/24...ds-duals-guide

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/22...perature-guide

Moderator note: This thread was Stickied in 2004 and updates added through 2006. The hardware is outdated at this time (1-30-08) but the general overclocking techniques remain the same. New guides will be posted as they become available. deeppow's guide referenced above is being maintained and may provide the most current information. PR

The DFI forums one is what I used to walk me through my first overclocks.

I belive that is a good guide....Beings the DFI boards are way more finiky than most...It takes better skills to get one going real good...So you get a real good guide....I have always linked that guide....Don't know why I didn't ask to have it added sooner....but now it's there....

You need to start your own new thread. This thread is for reference purposes not instruction or troubleshooting.

Sure you can, but make sure you read these sticky threads first. There are two in particular that talk about oc'ing the A64.

It's all the same..

It all aplies the same way just options in the bios may be a little different for each application...

You still need to find the max of the ram and cpu the same way.... then apply them together...

I'd start off for you by dropping the ram on a divider (533) and start from there...with that board you should be able to hit 350fsb in bios and 400fsb if you're lucky...

find the max mhz/fsb of the ram then use a divider to keep in below the max ....use Cpu-Z to check the speed... then prime 95 for testing...

You need to run 2 instances of prime...1 for each core or run Orthos-dual prime... minimum of 8 hours and then test 3D stability from there if you game....good luck

If you have a question... please start a thread question....this is reserved for stickies....

If you have specific questions, please start a new thread. This thread merely provides a collection of good "How to's" as a point of reference. Understanding how overclocking affects the entire system is necessary in order to properly create a STABLE oc'd machine. There is no magic button. It takes time, knowledge and a willingness to spend hours testing with various programs. And we don't recommend anyone overclock a system critical machine. If you only have one pc, run it at stock speeds and be happy with it.
