Mixing ECC & NON-ECC
Hi,
Just a quick question, I have 512MB DDR PC3200 ECC stick of RAM and am looking to add another 512MB PC3200 stick of memory. I am finding it very hard to locate a stick of the same memory, so my question is whether or not it is ok to add another stick of memory (512MB PC3200) which is non-ecc, I know you should try and stick to the same manufacturer but if anyone could give me some info, I would be grateful. Thanks, Sunny |

for the price of one stick of 512MB ECC PC3200, you can get 2x512MB sticks of non-ECC PC3200. ECC memory isnt important for a desktop machine, but in a server environment where large amounts of data are constantly being accessed and modified then ECC will be more of a help.

If you mix ECC and non-ECC, ECC functionality will be lost, but it should work fine.
