heatsink help
what is a good simple cpu cooler for a P4 3.0 Ghz processor, socket 478?

Any of the Zalman heatsinks. Also, Thermalright is a very good brand. But usually they are for heavy overclockers.

http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/p4sum.asp They rate a Vantec and Thermaltake close to the PIV (what P4 chips come with). Vantecs aren't bad, aren't great, and supposedly pretty quiet. Thermaltakes have a reputation of being quite noisy but good at cooling. For a simply cooler in that price range though I'd stick with the one that Intel provides (unless you don't have it). Then I might try the Vantec 2 (VP4). 23 bucks. If I wanted to move up the ladder, I'm leaning toward the ZALMAN CNPS7000A. 40 bucks but pure copper... the Thermalrights are 40 bucks for just the heatsink but they look nice as well. |
