P4 cooling question?
I'm building my first pc and I was planning on getting the P4 w/HT and heard from some of the reviews that it can get pretty hot. So what type of cooling system/aparatus should I use? More fans, heatsinks I know nothing about cooling. Here is what I'm planning on using hardware wise;

P4 Prescott cores do run relatively hotter then other CPUs but they can sustain higher temps. if you do choose to buy a seperate HSF, the heatsinks from thermalright are supposed to be very good. not too sure about what company to get the fans though.

The retail HSU that comes with the CPU is plenty good unless you plan on OCing the CPU. I have a Prescott 2.4 with the retail HSU and it runs 40c with one case fan.

ok so you are running the same processor as i am. HSF and HSU are interchangable mostly. it depends on if you are doing serious overclocking or not. for P4s, you can do some light overclocking just by raising the FSB but in order to get really high, you need to increase voltages. that's what causes most of the heat. if you just raise FSB a little, i doubt you need anything above stock cooling. thermalright does make good heatsinks and not sure but i think vantec makes good fans

HSU = Heat Sink Unit They basically both refer to the same thing...the heatsink and fan sitting on top of the CPU. Cricket
