Simple question before I buy
Will the Zalman Dual Heat Pipe VGA Cooler cool my Gainward GeForce 4Ti 4800se adequetly at stock speeds without a fan? The noise of the fan on my card now is driving me nuts. The last thing I want is a dead video card. Also, do I have to use the ramsinks that come with the cooler? My card already has ramsinks on their.

the zalman should work good, but im not certain as to how well since its passive. as for your ramsinks, if you have clearance issues then you use the Zalman heatsinks. why dont you try the Arctic Cooling NV Silencer? i use an Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer rev 3 on my 9800 pro and its virtually dead silent, plus it exhausts the heat out of the back. another good thing is that it dropped my case temps down 6C because its moving that hot air out of the case instead of recirculating it. that one linked above is made specifically for the Ti4xxx and some of the FX cards. i have nothing but good things to say about my VGA silencer. its also very easy to install...took me about 10 minutes. this one will also save you a few bucks compared to the zalman

if your card follows the nvidia reference design it will work. the fan doesnt lay flat against the PCB, its elevated above the capacitors.

How do I know if my card follows the reference design? I just don't want to mess with RMA's if it doesn't fit.

I ended up getting the Zalman. I read a few lengthy reviews where it cooled newer, hotter cards than mine with no fan. Is there any way to see the temperature of my GPU? It doesn't show up in Everest. I'm guessing my video card doesn't have a temp sensor. Is that correct?

your card doesnt have a temp sensor. nVidia didnt start the implementation of temp sensors until the NV36 (5700 Ultra).
