Lighting recommendations
Im currently running a blue CC in my case, but its not very bright. Im looking into getting new round cables (maybe UV reactive) as well as a dual CC from www.svc.com, but i dont know if the UV would be cool with just a few round cables in it. My case is dark blue w/ clear window. What are some other things i could add cheaply to make it look good with the UV, or what color CC and round cables would u suggest if i dont use the UV?

If you want more light, I'd also recommend LED fans and display, but for what you have now (I plan to do the same things), you can draw over your craphics card (or any surface that won't go screwy if you write on it) with UV-reactive gel pens. The site with the tutorial is linked in the pinned thread above and I think it is called Metku or something similar. They have quite a few cool articles (I only wish I could do the water bubbles one).

Go with some uv fans, some uv cables, and sleeve everything in uv. Yea it takes time but it looks sweet (ive dont it myself). Heres the thing....With uv dont get anything that lights up it just ruins the whole effect.
Also ive heard good things about cooler masters new lights. And since there uv ones are sold out everywhere im pretty sure there one of the best. |

Well if you dont mind tearing down your setup....
I highly suggest a complete UV makeover... you can use clear UV paint on the Mobo, cards and even the case chassis. replace the Ide cables with round UV cables... replace fans with clear UV fans use several UV CCFLs and even sleeve the PSU with UV reactive loom... Its really not hard to do and looks amazing... I also used a mirror fitted at the botom of the case to reflect more of the light.. Last edited by JPMiller; 11-18-2004 at 12:29 AM. |

I recommend no lighting, it a waste of time and money, and power, and is not needed at all, strickly for show, and that is now what I use a computer for,

With the UV fans you described (JPMiller), would they even make a difference? they way my case fans are mounted is that they are right below the windowcase . Unless i did new grilles or something i dont think it would make much difference. Where do you get the UV gel pens you were talking about? i may consider outlining the edge of my network card, maybe molex connectors and stuff too, and where is the site u were talking about idolcrash? cant see it lol. Is there any place i could get the sleeving, fans, cables, CC's, and gel pens for cheap? I know SVC as the fans and cables and cc's cheap but where could i get the rest?
BTW if you have any suggestions in terms of colors or combinations of colors to use, look at the link to see my case then tell me...and about the fans b/c if i replace them id like something quiet (have space for 2x80mm on sides, 4x80mm on frond, 1x60mm on back but they have adapters on the site taht are UV reactive as well so i could put an 80 in there, anyway temp isnt a problem and the fans i have now are not very good so something low RPM would be fine too Last edited by inflames988; 11-18-2004 at 03:08 PM. |

I would personally go with a bue lighting scheme...
I HIGHLY recommend cutting out the fan guards on those side fans,,,, that style is very air-flow restrictive... then get some nice matching guards... everything but the gel pens can be gotten from SVC... it would be tough to beat their prices... the gell pens are sold many places.. I know Office Max carries them... |

Ok, office max is easy enough, any certain thing i should look for, will it say UV reactive on it? blue scheme sounds good, maybe blue and orange ill try to look at some stuff lit up to get an idea...how would i go about cutting out the fan guards? dont have a dremel or anything like that but to have a drill...im guessing i basically cut around the outermost ring at the 4 points where its attached, then how does the new grill go in?Any suggestions on the fans? id actually like to maybe go with plain silver grills, or UV grills with just regular fans...
EDIT: can you see the color of the fans while there spinning? if you can i may just go with regular grilles...heres what i have so far but idk if i really want to go all blue 4" UV REACTIVE 4-PIN MOLEX Y-ADAPTER – BLUE COOLER MASTER 80MM SUF-S82 UV SILENT FAN – BLUE LOGISYS 12" DUAL COLD CATHODE LIGHT KIT - UV thats what ive got so far, and some plain grilles for the fans...ive been looking at some of the wire management UV stuff but dont really know what im looking for. the only wires id really like to hide are the power ones since i will have the round cables but done know what size (mainy need to cover the 4 pin molex wires which are fairly small, but the motherboard connector would be nice too. I need something i can get to go around the molex connectors too. Do those UV CC's light up the case? i dont really want them to just want more the reactive parts glowing Last edited by inflames988; 11-18-2004 at 04:44 PM. |

For the gel pens, the article writer said that the pens he got said "FLUO" on them, so I would think they would say something like that or "Fluorescent." I'm probably going to go to Wal*Mart tomorrow and this weekend, and I'll update you all on that.
The lights seem like a similar kit I got (I actually got two kits with one lamp in each), and the ones I ordered appeared to light up as well. I'm also planning on getting split loom for my wires, and hopefully I can find some blue UV-reactive only paint. This is the article |

So the UV lights actually light up? I was thinking they would light up a little but if u kept them out of sight in the case u wouldnt see it, it would be dark and u woudl just see the UV reactive things. BTW if anyone has good pics of UV stuff that looks cool, post it, i need some ideas.

Im not talking about having multiple lights and switching between them. Im talking about, lets say your going with uv cathodes and have things sleeved uv and your mobo is uv reactive...Then you add in a few non uv reactive light up fans the light thrown off from the fans will screw up the uv effect.

you tape off all the parts that may be effected... I linked a tutorial on it in an earlier post...
it is easy to do and has a really nice effect... I did the entire inside of my case, all cards, everything... if you are thorough and careful you can get quite an amzing effect from UV products... |

I think ive decided on a mostly blue scheme for the larger cables with orange sleeving for the power cables--what could i use for the orange?? What exactly can/cant be used in terms of tracing with the pens?

Uv reactive board by either doing with JPMiller said or a board like the DFI Lanparty which certain parts are uv reactive. I was just using it as an example.

I wasn't able to find fluorescent pens at Wal*Mart, so I'm going to OfficeMax tomorrow to see if I can find any (and larger split loom, the biggest diameter I could find was 3/8", I think I might need 5/8" fort my PSU cables).
So regular blue LEDs on my fans will mess with the UV effect? Hm, I wonder if it is possible to keep the fans on but shut off the lights (This is what I have), but I doubt it.... Also, what sort of stores should I look for to buy clear spray-on UV pain that reflects blue, especially the sort that will bond to plastic (split loom), or even UV reactive blue split loom (I don't really feel like ordering more online, it is much easier to go into a store; although either the paint or the loom should do)? Thanks! Last edited by idolcrash; 11-19-2004 at 09:45 PM. |

i was at officemax today, didnt have the pens. the link said to go to office depot and i didnt know there was one right near the office max...o well. i got the 2 cc's, 2 blue IDE, 1 blue floppy, went with YELLOW as opposed to orange on the cable management stuff, got the fans and basic grills, and the adapters for the molex. and got a bezel thing to mask one of my drives- i was trying to keep it under 30 and i went to 44 lol. How do i go about cutting out the old grills and puttin in the new ones?

idolcrash,
It would be eiasier to buy new loom. Or go with sleeving instead. If you paint the loom when it flexes or bends the paint will start to fall off. And im pretty sure you can stop the lights on the fan from lighting up. Clip the ground wire comming from the fan to the lights which will stop the lights from ligthing up and not pose a risk if it touches anything. Muskie, Take out the dremel and start removing the fan grilles from the case. If you want to go the extra step frozencpu.com sells a molding that looks very nice when put around a fan hole. http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/mol-01.html Last edited by FLG; 11-20-2004 at 08:34 AM. |

Have a drill?
If so just go to home depot or lowes and ask for a 3-1/8 (76mm) or a 3-1/4 (83mm) Bi-Metal hole saw. Make sure you get an arbor for it if it dosent come with one attached. Then put a piece of wood behind the place where the hole is going to be and it will come out perfect. You can also get a nibbler wich will work good but you might have some jagged spots. |

you can also use a heavy duty side cutter, or tin snips...
wont be as clean but you can always file it clean or something similar... I have also used a metal cutting band blade with tape at the end to hold it... like the blades you but for hack-saws.... just go slow and wrapp something around the end to hold the blade with... |

EDIT: tried the way JPMILLER told using a pen but didnt seem to work (pen ink thing was too small.)...i did get the fan grilles out though and looks good but i need 2 get the molex connectors off so i can get the loom stuff on em Last edited by inflames988; 12-02-2004 at 07:46 PM. |
