Simple Fan/Air Flow Question..........

I just Purchase a Koolance PC2-901BW Full Tower Case. It Has the 3 80mm fans at the top for the Koolance WC system (which I am switching to 3 80mm Vantec Tornados). A 92mm Tornado ABOVE the power supply, and 2 80mm Tornados Below--all 3 pushing air OUT of the case. I plan on adding 2 fans to the side windows to push air INTO the case.

It also has 3 80mm fan spots in front of the case--1 in front of each HD cage and 1 at the very bottom. I cut out the "built-in" fan "Guard"s of each to improve air flow.

The HDs will be WC along with the CPU and NorthBridge.

My question is: Is there any point in putting 80mm fans in the front slots to draw air INTO the case?

Or

Will it be sufficient/better to just let all the Tornados pushing air out the back to also draw the air into the case from the front?

I cannot fit Tornados in the front fan spots, so I can only put the standard 25mm thick fans in those spots......................

Any thoughts?????????????

TIA

Keep em,

Some people think positive air pressure is better (more air into the case) some think negative (more air out of the case). I have more air comming in then going out so it finds it way out from the exhaust fans and cracks and spaces in the case, now have it the other way around and thats how negative works but this also causes alot of dust build up.

Honestly i dont know which way works best but since your wc'ing it really dosent matter mutch. Id keep all the intakes you have just to try to keep things balanced so you dont get too mutch dust into the case and you still have fans intaking air rather then it finding its way in.

It would be good (depending on how worried you are about noise, I have four 80mm case fans (obviously not including PSU fan and CPU fan) and it isn't completely unbearable. You should be good if you use up those front, it is good to draw in air because the cooler air from the room your computer is in will come in and wash over the HDDs, motherboard, etc. (it is also good to have some fans localised), then the air that is warmed (which would be most of the air by the time it gets to the back of your case) is pushed out, and more cool air is drawn in.

The way my case is set up (it came this way) is that there is a case fan on the side that draws in air (the air blows into the heatsink/CPU), and one on the top that pulls out that air (which is by the CPU) and another fan in the front that draws air in (in front of the HDD rack) and another one on the back that pulls out that air as well.

Intake and exhaust usually depend on what direction you put the fans.

The 3 Fans In the back (2 x 80mm, 1 x 92mm) are all pushing out.

IF I install the ones in the front---they will be bringing air in.

Right now I have cut out the built in fan guards and Have installed a filter that we use at work to help prevent dust accumulation---whether I use the front fans or not. Its a disposable filter material that allows good air flow, but maybe fans in those front spots will help get the air through it better.

Not really concerned about noise. I have an A/C unit, an Air Filter and 2 PCs with open cases with 13" desk-fans blasting air into them---this room sounds like an airport!
BUT! That said I am checking out this koolance case/WC system and may switch my other pc over if all goes well. And I am using the Tornados hoping I can move more air at less RPMs for an overall quieter effect---we'll see.................

I guess my question concerns: will the thinner (25mm) fans move enough air IN to keep up with the air going OUT via the Tornados (84.1CFM@100%)?

Or

Would I be better off to just let the Tornados move the air in as they are pushing it out the back?

In other words, will the thinner fans be able to keep up or just put a drag on the air flow?

TIA

There wont be a problem if you have everything exhaust and no intake but its good to have atleast some intake rather then air just finding its way in which is how dust builds up.

Also some intakes will help with bringing in cool air which will lower your overall case temp.

Cool. Thanx for the Help Everybody!

But its not an issue any more---I finished cutting out the front fan openings to fit an 80mm Tornado in front of each HD cage (x2). A little super glue to hold the Tornados firmly onto those plastic fan holders and we r good to go!

Anybody realize that these Koolance cases are actually Antecs? Love it! I've been using Antec exclusively and this is a big plus for Me!

Thanx Again!

be careful with the tornadoes as they are LOUD. i dont mean loud, i mean very loud. one of them things is louder than all 4 of my case fans all together. a better idea would be to get some 80mm Panaflo L1As or M1As. if one tornado is unbearably loud id hate to hear a bunch of them . even on a fan controller a tornado is loud.

Naja, you really should reduce the size of the font in your sig...your sig is taking up too much space in your posts.

I see no need for more than 4 fans unless you like noise. This is contingent on the fact you will watercool?
