need quite heatsink fan for 3.2g machine

built a machine and with the intel 3.2 processor came the intel heatsink and fan. am not happy with this heatsink and fan it is noisy - a wirling sound. have looked at a lot of replacements but would like to get some personal recommendations for people as to a quite one. socket 478. my 2 case fans make less noise than this heatsink/fan.

thanks

For quiet cooling solutions, take a look at the Zalman heatsinks.

If that's the stock Intel fan... contact them and RMA it.... Intel fans are some of the quietest around.

Yep, its the heatsink and fan that came with the processor. I definitely makes a noisy whirling sound and I know its that part cuz I disconnected both case fans.

Suppose I could get in touch with newegg and see what their policy is on it but maybe just as easy to buy a different one and bypass the hassle.

I knew zalman was a good product will look at their products.

Thanks.

Cricket, I used your link to the Zalman site, clicked on the CNPS770-Cu heat sink/fan. When I clicked on "view" to check mobo compatibility, I get a box saying "It will not take long to get ready". This happens with IE6 and Firefox. I can't remember ever seeing that one before. Is there a way around it?

works fine for me. it is socket 478, 775, 939, 940, and 754 compatible.
edit- i see what you mean. probably they haven't finished it yet. you could probably take a measurement of your MoBo and see if it fits the required clearance.
