Dell case fans Proprietary ?

I have a Dell Dimension L667r 98sec. the case fan has been making more noise lately and started thinking on a new fan , the fan sounds like it's drawing more voltage and than less . I went on dell forum and it was stated that Dell fans are proprietary and this would happen if I used any other fan .

if you use a non-Dell fan, you'll get a bootup error at each startup.

So I'm stuck with buying a Dell fan ? I know they'll be more than like New Egg and it's not that it will be all that much more , just the idea I have to buy everything from Dell.
Thanks

They shouldn't be proprietary. I'm guessing they say that because it is plugged into the motherboard instead of directly into the PSU. Just unplug the old one and install the new one directly into the PSU.

Check and see where the old case fan is plugged into.

I don't know about the newest DELLs, but I've installed standard case fans into older DELLs without problems. Maybe they were talking about the CPU heatsink fan...maybe it needs a fan with a RPM sensing wire.

I would just replace the fan with a standard one and see what happens.

Dell case fans reply

Thanks a lot peoples, I don't know why I let it bother me so much it's just I guess I like to be in charge of something I bought and paid for, that's why someday I'm going to build my own as you've probably heard before so many times . My Dell is an oldie I bought it at the year 2000 not much of a machine but it works . Thanks again ,for some reason I feel relieved that I now have a choice . I'm a kind of person that hates not having a choice .
