DVD drive will not play movie
I have just bought and installed a new DVD burner (Pioneer duel layer 16X)
but when I try to play a video I get this message from Nero Showtime Nero showtime unable to start playing selected video. An overlay surface could not be created. try to lower display resolution and/or try updating video adapter driver. I try to play the movie with Power DVD5 and get this message. error code 8804027a DVD video playback graph buillding failed. I thought maybe it was something wrong with the DVD burner so I also installed a DVD ROM Drive and tried to play it from that drive and get the same messages. I thought it would be just the same as playing a CD in a CD ROM drive just put the disk in and it would play but it doesn't. So please guys if you can help me out on this one. The DVD ROM drive is an LG brand . My computer is about 4 years old with only a 466 mHz celeron processor but surely this should at least attempt to play the movie. My son had a similar computer to this one and had a DVD ROM drive and that played movies okay. or so he tells me. I definitely need help on this soon as pos guys.

movie cd's are set to not play if they detect that they are in a burner.

I would place the dvd-rom on the other ide port.
so that it is not on the same cable as the burner. |

Sorry took so long replying glc. Its onboard and there is no AGP slot only PCI
I ran another movie player and the message was to the effect that the graphic card was not capable of handling playing movies. |

Here's a PCI card that can handle DVD's if you want to upgrade that thing.

DVD+R and DVD-R are two different formats. If you have a DVD+R you cannot play DVD-R. But, there are some DVD players that are DVD+/-R that can play both formats though.
