This may be a lame question but I've got an older MB that supports UDMA/66 hard drives and I'm going to upgrade. Can I purchase an ATA 100 drive and still have compatability or do I have to stick with ATA 66? Thanks

the drive will work but at the ata 66 speed.
I would buy a pci controller card and connect the hard drive to it and you will have the full speed of the drive. if you feel its sluggesh |

You will never notice the difference. Just put an ATA100 or ATA133 hard drive on your onboard controller with an 80 wire Ultra ATA cable.

Thanks for your help. I figured I'd lose speed but I'm going to use it as a server and speed's not going to be that important. As long as it works. |
