DVD-ROM Drive Not Working

Hello guys,

My dvd-rom drive doesn't always want to load up a game dvd-rom (as in doesn't rev up) like Colin McRae Rally 2005. But if I restore my computer to factory settings I will work normally loading any dvdrom I have got, but after about one day it is not working again. Also I have not installed any new drivers nor new filmware updates. Please help me.

What are your system specs, OS and make and model of the DVD-ROM drive?

Anything running in background like anti-virus, firewall, burning software, etc...?

Maybe you *do* need an antivirus and a firewall - and scan for spyware.

In the same boat...

This just happened to me a couple days ago. I was about to post a new topic, but I searched first before asking the same question twice. I've got the HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B model too. It seems that this model has had alot of problems approximately after a year. Coincidentally, my Dell is just over a year old now and this drive has stopped working. Sorry to keep reiterating, but I'm replying to bump this to the top and maybe someone can tell me what to do? When I insert a disc of any sort, it sounds like it's just about to read it, then it makes that slight *click* sound, and then tries again a couple more times, then gives up. The burner that came with this computer works fine now. If nobody can help me, can someone at least suggest a decent quality but decently priced DVD-ROM drive? Thanks alot

-Tom

Yes, try running adaware, spybot, and update and run a virus scan before you shot down your DVDrom, at a minimum you should run at least a software firewall if your using cable or dsl connection
