DFI Lanparty UT need help with RAID setup

The motheboard manaul states that there are two sata controllers. The nforce 3 chip and a marvell chip but it doesn't explain which to use or which ports are which on the board. I used the two ports on the lower right hand side of the board. I installed the RAID drivers and windows xp. It seems to work but there is an icon on the task bar, when you click it a box comes up and the two RAIDed hard drives come up as being external.

Does anyone have an explantion for this or what I did wrong or is the way it's to be?

btw: the hardrives are raptors

TIA
Happy Holidays!

Are you using the nF3 250 GB? Check the picture manual to see if they make any domparison between the ports.

Which driver did youi install with xp, the nforce or the marvell? Which "raid bios" did you use to set up the raid, nforce or marvell? I assume you've hooked up to the marvell controller, as the native (nforce3 or intel) are usually more middle of the board, nearer the PCI slots. You can reinstall to the nforce which would have native raid support. As to why they're recognized as external, I can only assume it would be because they're on the marvell controller.
