Took my battery out, now what?

lol, ok i did this on an old computer of mine cause i wanna see whats invovled in the setup. So, i guess what i'm after is...what do i do? just load the bios from my floppy and then proceed with normal OS install?

You won't need to load the BIOS from a floppy, it's stored on an EPROM on the motherboard, you'll (maybe) need to reset some of the settings. Is the hard drive blank/formatted/new? If all you did was pull the battery from a working computer, the data will still be on the HDD. If it's blank/formatted, yes you'll need to reinstall the OS once the BIOS is set correctly.

ok cool (sorry for the tardyness on replying) the HDD is new, and all I wanted to do was find out what was invloved....so I simply reset the BIOS settings? sounds easy enough


Two Rails: no this is a brand new post....just didn't explain properly i guess....sorry.

You do not have to do anything with the BIOS. Just connect the HDD up, and boot off the O/S CD.

How old is this computer? If it's a few years old, you might have to do a hard drive detection to get the hard drives recognized.

And what OS are you trying to install? If WinXP, make sure you change the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive and set the CD-ROM drive to AUTO in the Standard CMOS Set Up.
