DVD drive issue

sometimes if I put a DVD or even CD in my DVD-R/CD-RW drive, the drive recognizes it as being in even when it has been out for a week. When I put a different disc in, it doesn't recognize it. Even SiSoftware Sandra thinks a Futurama DVD is in the drive even when its a CD-RW in there. This issue is preventing me from writing to CDs. It doesn't know a CD-RW is in the drive.

any ideas?

Try getting into the habit of software ejecting your disks instead of pushing the button. Right click on the drive icon and select Eject.

I've always pressed the button and have never encountered this on anyother computers.

Nope. Doesn't do it. Right now, it just says DVD/CD-RW drive. I just put in the Live in Texas CD and it doesn't recongize it. I ejected it and closed the tray by right clicking.

The drive could be going bad, or it may need a firmware update.

I updated the firmware and windows wont recognize that there is even a disc in there. It just always says "DVD/CD-RW" all the time. It tells how big the CD is when you click on it and you can run the CD, but it won't autorun. is my drive broken?

damn you, Lite-on. I'm going samsung next time. This drive is only 4 months old...

Samsung is worse, trust me. If it's only 4 months old, get it replaced on warranty.
