DVD Rom Drive Speed Malfunction

I'm having problems with my DVD Rom Drive...

I use nero 6 to burn and copy...and just recently when I come to copy a disk the source drive seems to be running very slow...It usually writes fairly quick...However, now takes around 40 mins to complete.

Any ideas what may be wrong, checked in device manager and speeds and everything seem to be set ok...

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but when I boot comp, windows xp loads and I get INF Install Faliure? It looks as though its deleting files, but this error message appears two or three times. It also deleted my quick loads from my start menu?

Any ideas before I loose my mind.

This doesnt make sense, is you DVD drive a burner?
