YIKES! Blank screen on startup (xp pro).

Here's a wierd one. I did a sytem restore (because my soundcard suddenly stopped seeing incoming audio) and when windows restarted I got a blank screen! Startup seems normal until the desktop shoud appear which it doesn't. I've tried starting in all different modes but still get a blank screen. Seems like I'm missing something very obvious but I'll be derned if I know what it is. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the response baily. Unfortunately I can't boot up in ANY mode. Or rather, I can boot up but only to a blank screen. That's what makes this a tricky one. Any further suggestions are much appreciated.
