DVD Writer and Movie Stutter
I recently installed a LG DVD writer. I have the DVD writer and one hard drive on an 80-wire cable.
On the second IDE channel I had a DVD-ROM and another hard drive on an 80-wire cable. When I watched a movie with PowerDVD it would stutter. Not really bad but noticeable. It did this with the new DVD writer and the older DVD-ROM. I swapped the DVD-ROM for my old CD writer and movies show fine. I would rather have the DVD-ROM in right now for checking my burned DVDs. Any suggestions? |

Why don`t you try installing the two HD in the IDE 0 and the burner as master and the DVD-ROM as slave in the IDE 1?
What are the spects of your pc processor and memory? |

easg is right. It's best to keep optical drives on their own channel separate from HDDs.

Processor - P4 2.4b
Memory - 1024mg Swapping IDE channels was my next step but I won't do that until I have the case open for something else. At this point, it's working and I'm just curious about why it was stuttering. |

Could've been just that... conflict on the channel you were playing the disk on. Wouldn't take more than a few minutes to pop the side off and switch a few cables.

My sincere apologies to all who tried to help me. I was tempted to just slink off and keep my mouth shut but I found the solution and it was my stupidity. A few days ago someone asked about disabling antialiasing on the desktop and I turned mine off in NVidia to see what effect it would have. Then I forgot about it. Apparently the only effect was to make my movies stutter.
Aaargh! So, all is well now. Thanks and I'm sorry I bothered you. |

Thanks for getting back with a solution. It's always good to find what happens. I'd still recommend switching your IDE channels when you get the chance - one for optical drives and one for hard disks.
