Socket 939 or Socket 754

Hey,

I'm planning on building a new computer and I've been told many things...

I want your advice:

AMD ATHLON 64 3500+ S939 ............................ $365CAD
GIGABYTE GA-K8NSNXP 5PCI NF3 250 S939 ......... $270CAD
................................................................... $635CAD

or

AMD ATHLON 64 3400+ S754 ............................ $269CAD
GIGABYTE GA-K8NSNXP 5PCI NF3 250 S754 ......... $256CAD
.................................................................... $525CAD

What do you think? Frankly the extra $110CAD is not a problem, I want to know which would would be the best for gaming.

Thanks,
- cmallette

i would actually get the 939 socket. don't know much about your MoBo. DFI lanparty series is always nice and have you looked into the MSI Neo2 platinum? that is an excellent board as well.

MSI Neo2 Platinum looks very interesting, thanks for pointing out. It's even cheaper than the gigabyte nf3

Also may want to take a look at the Asus A8V Deluxe. Very stable motherboard.

I'll double the recommendation on the A8V. Apart from some trouble installing winxp on a SATA HDD, it's been a very nice board to me so far

I'll third the recommendation of the Asus A8V Deluxe and the Socket 939 build - it is one of the best valued boards out there. Here is a review by Tech Report on the Asus A8V Deluxe. If you wish to utilize PCI-Express graphics, the Asus A8V-E Deluxe may be worth considering.

I will go with socket 939. That is the socket that AMD will be continuing their CPU's on, so upgrading will be easier.

you'd probably need at least a very good 480W power supply to power that rig. i'd probaby recommend 500+W

I checked out that ASUS Delux but I can't find PCI-Express on it. Am I missing something?

Are any SLI mothers out yet?

SLi motherboards have just come out. i don't know about their availibility yet but the ASUS A8N SLi Deluxe is the first one. Kramm was talking about the ASUS A8V E-Deluxe not sure if that has PCIE or not.

The Asus A8V-E Deluxe is a PCI-Express version of the A8V Deluxe. It uses the VIA K8T890 chipset.

That ASUS Mobo you mention can it be bought from ASUS?

When do you think Newegg will sell it?

Do you know any where else that might sell it right now?

I also found this PCI-Express Mobo.

Boy oh boy, I can't wait for any PCI-Express Mobo though. Any one of them will make a serious diffrence in upgrade right about now don't you agree?

Yea, I can't wait for the new boards to come out because I been waiting a long time to build a new rig. Unfortunately 3500+ price went up.

You can't buy the board directly from ASUS. Newegg will probably sell it early January (I'm hearing Jan 15 but maybe sooner). Most places sell it about the same time.

In Japan, the motherboards have been out for a while now... I think there are some places in the US that sell it too.

Whether the motherboard is worth it is your decision. It will depend on your budget, and how you want to spend it. I think it is worth it.
Sorry, but I don't know the answer to your second question...

On the second part, from what I've been hearing, the low end PCI-E cards are about equal to performance of the 8x cards. The higher end PCI-E cards will whoop the heck out of 8x cards.

Thumbs up

Ok, quick question.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...123-146&depa=1
Look at this card its PCI-E good company and it has DDR3 RAM. Its pretty nice.

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...122-206&depa=1
About the same thing except its X8.

It looks to me like the PCI-E card is cheaper and just as good. Am I missing some thing here? It seems cost effective to try and shell out some extra for this bargain with PCI-E?

Do you think this is just star struckness voodoo frenzy over priced thinking though and I should try to detach my self this time around?

I geuss I could bugedt it, but like every one else I'd like to know if I'm getting ya know paying too much.
