Windows won't load after 2nd HD install

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this but this is how my problem started. Running AMD 2700+ECS K7VTA3 5.0,120 GB Maxtor HD,Memorex DVD ROM,MemorexDVD RW +-. Everythig has been running great for almost a year. I decided to add another HD a Maxtor 80 GB drive. I hooked it up as a slave on the same IDE cable as the master HD,fired it up and both drives show up in BIOS correct, but when Windows XP sp2 tries to load it stops at the black Windows XP screen with the blue progress bar scrolling, and nothing. I thought i would just start the Windows XP install disk and do a repair but it won't boot from the cd drive even though I have it set as 1st boot in BIOS,both the optical drives show up in BIOS and set as automatic.
I ran the Maxtor Power Max HD utilities and both hard drives passed all test fine. I even disconnected the 2nd hard drive and it still wont bootpast the Windows XP screen, havent touched the jumper on the origional HD.
I guess what really concerns me is that I can't boot from the cd,normally when I set it to boot from the cd rom drive in BIOS and restart it says press enter to boot from cd, but that option doesn't show.
I couls really use soms help.
Thanks

Have you tried pressing F8 before windows begins to load (advanced boot menu)

A: tried starting in safe mode?
B: tried running the Last known good configuration option?

Yes I tried all of that but no luck. I guess the main problem now is that I can't boot from the cd rom drive to reload Win XP. I don't mind starting all over from scratch if I can just get the Win XP cd to load. If the cd would at least load I could do a repair or fixmbr. The cd drive worked yesterday because I load the Knoppix live cd on occasion to play with Linux. I am thinking maybe the mobo is trashed? I tried different ide cables, but that didn't help. As I said before every drive shows up in BIOS so they must be working. I am at a loss now. I even tried an external USB cd drive with BIOS set as 1st boot and it didn't work.
Anybody have ant suggestions?

Unless someone has a better suggestion, try downloading the apropriate XP setup disk for your OS and try with those... note you may need 6 floppies if memory serves me well.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will download and try that. It makes sense if I can't load from the cd rom drive.

Thanks for the suggestions but none would work. I down loaded the boot disk from MS but when they finished it asked for the windows xp cd but wouldn't recoginize it. I downloaded chipset drivers from ECS and VIA 4 in 1 drivers to no avail. S just I had suspected the mobo was trashed. I bought an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo, installed the CPU and everything works fine now.
Again thanks for all of your help.

Shame about that, but I am sure you will be wrapped with the new motherboard... enjoy!
