Windows loads into blank screen

I built my first computer about 6 months ago and it has been working fine until the other day I went to get on. Every program that I went to open returned an error message. I went to restart the computer and it crashed. I shut it down manually and when it booted back up the screen went blank after the windows loading screen. I tried booting in safe mode but it just showed a list of a bunch of files in dos style and then rebooted.

I then tried a repair install and 10 or so files could not be written and they had to be skipped. Windows still just loads into a blank screen. My computer is in my sig.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Okay I now when I boot in safe mode, instead of just a blank screen I get a blue screen that says:

"STOP:c0000218 Unknown Hard Error
Unknown Hard Error"

Booting normally only goes into a windows loading screen followed by a black screen.

Sounds like your hard drive is dying. Go to the manufacturer's web site and download the diagnostic utilities to test the drive with.

You might want to replace the IDE cable first, just to rule that out.
