Question A7N8X Deluxe BIOS update

I have a A7N8X Deluxe Revision level 2 that I am trying to update the BIOS. It just stops after I give it a name to back up the BIOS to.

I have tried using Awdflash.exe that came with the mobo and the newer version on Asus site. Same results. Update proceedes just like book says until I backup old BIOS, hit "Y" and "Enter" for it to proceed. At that point it sets there. No HD activity. No Floppy activity. I wait about 10 minutes, power off and reboot and start over with same results.

I must be missing something but I cain't figure it out.

I have the same board, and I just flashed the BIOS recently too. I'm guessing you're trying to flash to 1008? You could always download the version that you're using now and save that to a floppy, that's what I did.

Cool

I'm trying to flash using C18D1007. It appears to back up OK and when I hit "Yes" and "Enter" for it to proceed is when it just stops. No activity and will not reboot using "Cntl", "Alt" and "Delete" I power off and system comes back up fine.

Did you check the floppy to see if it was actually backed up?

did you use the ASUS update feature on the cd that comes with the mobo. you dont need a floppy or anything , you just download the bios update and the proggy does all for you with reboot after.

I was trying to avoid that as I had heard you could get into a lot of trouble updating using Windows. But out of desperation I did it anyway. Worked fine. Took about 10 minutes for everything including reboot. Been messing with this for 2 days.

Thanks
Chas

I think the problems with bios upgrades within windows has been blown out of proportion. I've done every one of my machines (4) at least twice and several customers' computers using the software update. Never a hitch. Even did a custom bios flash on my Abit board using the software too. Worked like a champ. Think the only "secret" is shutting down the AV and all running programs before the flash.

Which I did. Will probably use same method if I have to do it again.
Thanks all.
