Problem with SATA Drive \ Install XP

Hey everyone,

Running into some serious issues here. Specs:

Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro 2 board (onboard SATA controller)
Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 SATA Drive

I don't have alot of hands on with SATA drives so bare with me.

I am not able to get WinXP installed on this machine. I tried everything. I have downloaded their CD install, floppy disk install, driver install for F6 during setup, the drive cannot be seen.

At bootup it finds the CDROM IDE Drive, goes to next screen and finds the SATA Drive. So we know the BIOS sees the drive.

Any ideas comments, is this quite common when dealing with SATA Drives?

Thanks for any comments/suggestions.

I've got the same SATA controller on my board. You said you made the floppy driver disk... You hit F6 during setup... Did you press "S" to "specify additional device"? Once you do this, it will pull the drivers from the floppy.

Ya, thats exactly what I did. It shows the driver there and when it gets to the point to hit ENTER to install XP, says cannnot find any hard disks. Its wierd.

Are you sure it's seeing the SATA drive in the BIOS?

I see it found after the IDE drives are found, shows the drive model and everything at bootup.

Can you post in here the link to the driver you used? I have tried a couple and still no go.

Thanks for your time!

Go here and download the SATA RAID driver. Extract it, and go to the Si3112 folder, then go to the next Si3112 folder, copy "Si3112.sys" and "Si3112.mpd" to a floppy. Those are the two I have on my SATA floppy. After you press "S" to specify an additional device, it should pull the drivers from the floppy and recognize your SATA controller, press enter and you should then be able to proceed with your installation.

So far so good!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much. I had to copy that whole folder to the floppy cause during install it kept popping up asking for files. So just those 2 would not cut it.

I appreciate it!
