laptop question??
I recently bought a Sony Vaio laptop. It has 256mb of ram. Yet, when ever I check, it says 254mb. Is it possible to add ram to laptop myself? Do they have one slot?

Your Viao most likely has another Ram slot. To my knowledge all Viao's do and I'm betting the 256 MB is on one stick. What model is it and is it stock off the shelf? Thier website will have the specs.

memory slot
hello suitcase
rightcoast is correct what model is it? and how old? yes it might have another slot for memory; however if older memory in it you might have to replace the 256 with updated ones cause of time and chnges in new types of modules. check the website for more details and updates etc. good luck quester10 |

Go to www.crucial.com and select your system, that will tell you the max it will take and how much $$ your're looking at.

Well my wife had been bugging me about getting her a laptop, and Staple's had this one on display. I'm at work so I'm not sure the model. It has P4 2.66 and ram listed above. Graphics is 64mb not sure what, but does look like a actual card. Came with XP Home. Said they weren't carrying Sony laptops anymore. It sold for $1399. and I got if for $899. One thing I don't like is that it didn't come with software to recover if it crashes. Everything is on ghost drive and it takes up alot of hdd space. I think I could do some gaming if I had more ram. It'll play older games (NOLF1) ok, but the COD demo was too much for it. I get Maximum PC mag and the discs that come each month have demos on them, some play some don't.

reply back to suitcase
happy holidays suitcase,
when you get a chance find the model # and i'll help you research it. as for the maxpc disc's they like the latest directx (wich is i think 9.0). when you put in a disc and clik on a game it should show you the game requirements and what you have. their are always possibalities. "the best is yet to be built" let me know what you wish to do quester10 |

If your ghost image is on a separate partition on the harddrive, see if you can see the ghost image files through windows explorer. If you can, burn them to CD and save the CD for future recovery.
If not, then you can purchase Norton Ghost and ghost your hard drive as it is now, then you can delete the partition with the ghost image on it, however these patitions usually have diagnostics on them as well, so I wouldn't do it unless you absolutely need the space. You can then use a utility such as Partition Magic to convert the 2 partitions into one without destroying any data. Make sure that you really want to do this before you do it! |
