Try on another pc
I am adding a external hard drive to my pc and would like to know if I can format it on another pc with xp? My os is me. Thanks

Yes, however, if you are going to use the drive on a winME machine, the drive will need to be formatted as FAT32-- winME has no NTFS support.

Thanks, Whats happening is I am trying to add an external hard drive but I can`t find it any where to format it. I have checked in the bios but it isn`t there. Could it be because it is connected through usb?

You can do this within ME. Open a command prompt and run FDISK. Use option 5 to select the unpartitioned disk and create a primary DOS partition. You will then see it in My Computer and be able to right click on it and format it.

When I do that it only gives me 4 options. And sorry about the double post, I was just trying to explain why I was asking to see if I could format a new hard drive from another pc.

The only problem with doing it in XP is XP can only create 32gb or less FAT32 partitions. If this is acceptable, do it in Disk Management.

When I opened a command promp to fdisk it only gave me 4 choices.
