The Line In and Line Out ports are so you can connect other audio equipment to the computer.

The Line in is for you to connect audio equipment to utilize the built-in amplifier, the line out is for you to connect the speaker, althought is a very old sound card but is one of my favourite sound card cos' can drive passive speaker with considerable good sound quality but don't advice to put into today modern rig because the ISA bus bandwidth is too narrow and can cause severe lag in modern games. If put into system which basically surfing net, word processing or some light game, this sound card is superb compare to those onboard sound chip on stereo speaker ( not comparing 4.1 or 5.1 speaker system).
