universal thumb drive drivers?

For people with Win 98.x, is there such a thing as a universal thumb drive driver set? or do they need to download and install drivers for each brand of thumb drive friends bring over?

I have to install the driver for each different brand of USB flash drive I work from. That's one reason I'm thinking of finally upgrading my last 2 Win98SE boxes to WinXP Home...better USB support...and better stability.

Oddly enough, the external USB hard drive enclosure I just put together gets recognized as a USB storage device in Win98SE without the need for added drivers.

Generic USB mass storage driver for Win98
I found this posted on another forum that someone had written. I have not tried it and have no idea if it works, but give it may be worth a quick virus scan and a shot. HTH

edit - I found that one quick by googling "generic USB mass storage driver windows 98" if you want to look for some more.

Thanks for the tips

Cricket, I'm going just the opposite direction. I'm doing a Win 98.2 spare parts build in my spare time so I can play some older games

PMich, I'll check out that driver, thanks.
