Ok, if your p4 3.0 wont work in the compaq i think it is because the board might not be able to take a 3.0 since it was designed for a 1.6, Make sure everything in its place tight, especially the video card and processor. If that doesnt work then maybe your processor is/ was already dead since you bought it off ebay. wish what i offered works for you.
Happy new year to you too!!! g-dogg |

Did you plug both power connectors from the power supply into the motherboard?
I've never heard of that power supply brand and would try another one (but not the one in the Compaqa). Cricket

I've just completed my first build and had a similar problem. It turned out to be something really simple - the mobo required 2 power connections from the PSU!
Firstly check the mobos working by only putting in one memory stick and connect the PSU - no peripherals. If it bleeps it works. You could also check if the CPU is working by removing the heatsink and switching the power on. If it heats up quickly it works but dont leave it too long or you'll fry it! But in failing that I would take everything out and start again. Im certainly no expert but hope that helps! |

Have you tried the video card in another PC yet?
You're still working with the motherboard out of the case, right? If you are and you're sure nothing is grounding out the motherboard, then is does sound as if the motherboard or CPU is dead. Cricket

I would suspect the motherboard before I thought the CPU was bad.
