I just built a system with a Pentium 4 1.5ghz, with an Asus 850 chipset motherboard and it will not run the POST. The LED light is on and it checks the hard drive, cd burner and cd/dvd drives. Nothing appears on the screen and there is no beep. I have 512 RDRAM and all four slots are filled. I have reseated the RAM and tried different RAM variations. I have checked all the cables, the cpu slot and tried booting with/without the video and sound card. I have the jumpers set to 'jumper free' mode and have played with different jumper settings. No luck. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers! |

The best thing to do, while a real pain, would be to strip the system right down and start with the absolute basics. Pull EVERYTHING out of the case.
1) Set the motherboard down on a non conductive surface. The motherboard box is perfect for this. 2) Install ONLY the CPU, Heat Sink, RAM (Start with only one pair in your case), Video Card. 3) Plug in the keyboard 4) Connect the monitor 5) Connect the power supply. For the P4, you should have the standard ATX connector, an inline 6 pin connector, and a square 4 pin connector. 6) Connect power to the power supply. If there is a switch on the back, make sure it is on. 7) Locate the two pins on your motherboard that your case power switch would connect to. Using a small screwdriver, MOMENTARILY short across those two pins to power the system up. If all is well, you should get a display on your screen. Try this and see if it works, if so, great, lets start putting it back in the case. If not, post what happens and we'll try to find out what is going on from there.

Did this system board ship with RIMMs? (terminator modules)
This system board only supports RDRAM? Is the ram config as the manual states? Clear the CMOS with the jumper and retry.

Yes,
I am using RDRAM PC 800 chips and are filling all four slots. I have tried different variations and nothing works. As far as clearing the CMOS with a jumper setting, this is not an option. The board has ten dip switches and I have tried different settings. I will keep trying. Thanks for your feedback! |
