Problem with older dvd drive

Just wondering if anyone has experience with older dvd drives not working properly with programs on dvds (ex. dvd movies will play, but I can't install programs from cds or dvds.) I'm running XP pro and a 6 year old toshiba drive on the secondary ATA channel with a CDRW drive, while the primary channel has the HDD.

If it's 6 years old, it's probably nearing the end of its life span. Treat yourself to a new DVD drive, they are less than 30 bucks now.
