DELL C600 not running at full speed---

Computer: DELL C600 notebook: PIII 850/700 512 mb ram

problem: setupbios and win 98 "system" menu both indicate computer running at 700 mhz..am not able to get machine up to the 850 mhz range. Bios= A23 (late version). battery has good charge and all parameters (in setup bios) set to factory default. (BIOS lists the CPU running speed but does not allow it to be altered..)

suggestions!

computer running at 700 mhz -> Is it running on battery only? If so, it's suppost to run slower/cooler.

will try SANDRA to confirm cpu speed.

had same issue when initially purchased unit--returned it to seller who updated the BIOS (to version A23=late version).. CPU then ran at 850 mhz speed but has dropped baxck to 700 mhz? (700 on both battery and ac power).

there is no setting in bios to adjust CPU speed either

If it were me I wouldnt want to adjust the speed of the CPU... to me thats like saying theres a need to make your computer slower but I guess for all practical purposes you could have a CPU speed controll in the BIOS. Seems to me you'd wanna make it faster not slower! hehe.. I know that's what the problem is here. It's not going fast enough.
