I just replaced the stock cooler on a Prescott Socket 478 3Ghz P4 with 800Mhz FSB, 512Mb L2 Cache, and HT technology with Thermaltake’s Volcano 7+. The CPU using the stock cooler and Arctic Silver 5 idled at around 55C and using the Volcano with Arctic Silver 5 idled at around 51C. Not quite the difference I was hoping for. And then there is the noise... The Volcano is very loud like having a vacuum cleaner constantly running a few feet away. I have to cover up the chassis with a blanket to muffle the noise to a more tolerable level which in turn makes the inside hotter. If you don't mind the noise or dishing out $30 for a few degrees of difference, then this cooler may be ok for you. I on the other hand plan on taking this thing back for a better fan.
