Promise Ultra 66 -> Ultra 100?

Is there any way to convert a Promise Ultra 66 card to Ultra 100 - such as maybe flash it with the Ultra 100 bios and use the Ultra 100 driver? (Note - I don't want to convert it to a raid card - I do know about that trick)

I've been wondering about that one myself glc, but I haven't found anything on anyone that has done it. If it does work, I have to of them I would like to convert.

HAL - Tried it tonight - ptiflash says it's the wrong file and won't do it.

jotto: Never happen - unless it's a Courier - that *might* work. It would have to be a "V.everything" model, but the flash would be $60 - not worth it. Give the 14.4 to someone that has broadband to use for a fax modem.

OK... I was going to give it a shot tonight, but I guess I won't bother now.

Isn't there a trick where you have solder something to convert a promise ultra 66/100 to a fasttrack 66/100? Maybe you'd have to something similar for it to accept the bios? Just throwing out ideas here....

Flop - that's what I was thinking........I just proved that the 66 will not accept the 100 bios flash without doing *something* else. I'm not afraid to start soldering if that's what it takes. I don't need or want a RAID card for this particular instance - I'm just putting an ATA100 hard drive into an Intel BX based system that already has a 66 card and don't want to toss the card. No biggie - if it's not possible we will just run the new drive at 66. It's an IBM 75 gig 7200 rpm - so I don't think the difference between 66 and 100 will be noticeable.

glc...I have a promise ultra 100 sitting in front of me right now...do you know of a place that has a picture of the ultra 66 in detail so we can compare the pictures? I don't think the cards are too much different, maybe something just needs to be soldered. Since you have a 66 and I have 100, maybe we can collaborate somehow and you can get this to work?

I found a picture of one, and they aren't alike as much as I thought, things are positioned differently on the card including the bios chip. Just did a search on google and came up with nothing...just the fasttrack mod.

I think they use totally different controller cards. Unless you're an electrical engineer and have a soldering gun and that controller chip handy, I don't think it's possible.

Funny it seems the controller chip and the rest is the same, just the layout is different. Thought I looked at the controller chips closely and they looked the same, but maybe they're not.
