Need advice on mp3 player

I got an mp3 player for xmas, but that thing did not last very long!!!! and I am looking for a new BETTER one.

Aside from the the HD, I would like some opinios.

I've read reviews on both, but again depending on the site I get different "pros/cons".

I mainly need this to go to the gym and bike riding.

I would take a zen over an ipod anyday, just my preference

Cons

*The only bad thing about this product is that is has no lcd screen. But i have a ipod mini and i don't use it that much. I just use the shuffle.
*Mabey the 12 hours of battery life could be a problem for some people but i belive 12 hours is alot. It all depends on what you do.

Suggestions.

Sense you go to the gym/bikeing i would recomend getting the
iPod shuffle Armband.
And also if u drop it alot or just want to keep good care of it get the iPod shuffle Sport Case

But I think I am going to go with the iPod mini, as it is smaller and not as bulky as the Zen from creative.

Noooooooooo! DOnt do it, the Dell JukeBox is so much better. You can put Windows media files up there, rip cds straight to it, mp3's and more. Plus, u dont have 2 pay for ur music like with the IPOD. Im buying the Dell DJ 20GB, it cost 249.99, and the 5GB one is 199.99. I highly suggest the Dell DJ man.

I hope you are not refering to downloading mp3's off the net (which you can still put on the iPod). And with the iPod I can put any song i want on there, if it comes from iTunes I just convert it to an mp3. All of my songs are mp3 format I have about 4000 form different places and they all went on my iPod. I ripped all my cds to my computer and put them on my iPod. I didnt have to rebuy them from iTunes. So Yes I am going to go with 5 gb for 200 is a ripp off because you can get the 20gb iPod for 300. Thats $100 extra for 15 gb. Read your product specs first thanks GG.

Well, the iPod price is not much better than the Dell Jukebox...as I was also considering that one too (after i started this thread).

The iPod mini is $320.00 CDN so about $245.00 US and it is only 4GB. The think that I like about it is the size! as mentioned before I just want it for bike riding and going to the gym.

Now, while on the topic of players capacities...does anyone know when the new iPod mini (5GB) comes out?

I am sure that do not have to buy all the songs from iTunes and I can get them from other online music retailers...as far as I know many people do that.

as far as i no u should be able to put any music onto the ipod be it from ur HDD, CD's or the internet as long as they are in mp3 format.. there is also other pieces of software around to upload them to ur ipod instead of using itunes..

I have the 256Mb one and LOVE it, it goes everywhere with me. I have ~8 hours worth of music and a bunch of data files on it. The USB 2.0 interface is fast and easy, shows up as a 'Removeable Drive' in Explorer, and XP even enables the right-click+send to option....

With this in mind, you should really look at a flash drive rather than a player with a hard drive. If, heaven forbid, you should take a spill on your bike, a player with an internal HD might not survive as well as a flash drive type player

Yeah, I looked at that one but it is only 256MB and the price is not great either about $199 Cdn.

You are right on this sense, as I do quite a bit of mountain biking during the summer!...would do it all year round but this -30C weather just doesn't allow it.

My friend said the same thing, until he actually bought it. I think he is currently on his third DJ (the first two were returned for warranty replacements) and he is having problems with this one too. If you want to have your MP3 player break and not be able to use it, then I highly recommend the DJ. Otherwise I think you should get the iPod.

I have a 40 GB iPod that I got myself for Christmas, and it is simply wonderful. Incidentally, you don't have to pay for your music with it; I have gotten only one track from the iTMS, and that one was because I got a free one in the promo that Pepsi was having. Most of my music is in MP3 format, and it all works on the iPod. I had some WMA files which iTunes thankfully converted to MP3. And I'm just too lazy to convert the few AAC files I have to MP3, which is fine because I use iTunes as my music player anyway.

I really only have two complaints about iPod/iTunes. One is that the battery life is only 12 hours, so I can only enjoy the wonderful iPod goodness for that long before having to plug it in. The other is that iTunes builds a database from the ID3 tags and then doesn't update the ID3 tags when you make a change to track info in the database. Oh well, small price to pay for having the best MP3 player in the world.

Also, another friend had the Zen and deliberately broke it so that he could use the Best Buy replacement plan to get an iPod, and he likes the iPod a lot more. My cousin also had an earlier Creative Nomad Jukebox and replaced it with an iPod because the Creative UI is terrible.

I would avoid any WMA player simply because of M$ utter belief in DRM. Apple use DRm but it is the most unrestrictive in the industry. Also, Windows Media Player is rumored to be getting a check in / check out system similar to sony's jukebox. Not a real fair rights system if you ask me. the ipod and itunes are the way to go.

I don't know where to find this information, but try to read up on how other people use theri minis or jukeboxes. If you're into somewhat active sports, this might have an impact on a hard drive player. I have an iRiver mp3 player and its light weight and solid state memory are its best assets. However, it doesn't hold as many songs as it could. If you're going to use the mp3 player mainly for active sports as opposed to train/bus commutes, etc, I'd suggest going for a solid state player. They're smaller, lighter, and (although this might not be an issue) there's no hard drive to shake around. Apple probably built their ipods w/ a skip-buffer and the hard drives should be shock-proof so it's probably not an issue. Weight... there's an issue. I don't know how strapping an ipod mini to your arm will feel while you're working out but it might be an inconvenience.

That's just my 2 cents.
