Parallel port, can it receive data, which pins?
I have a gps that I would like to connect to my laptop, the gps has 2 wires
data out and ground. Can I wire this into an old parallel port plug? If so which pins on the paralel port or better yet are the wires in the parallel port color coded( are they all the same?)? My laptop has no serial port, I can get a serial port cable from the GPS manufacturer and get a serial to USB adapter but I have had problems xmitting date thru a USB adapter. It seems it would be easy to cut a printer cable in half and just attatch the 2 wires from gps to the correct 2 wires in the printer cable. IF the parallel port can receive data.

A parallel port can receive data, but a GPS is a serial device, so it will not work.
