I have a computer on which my video output will work fine for weeks on end and then suddenly the picture startes to disintagrate(sp). I reboot and everything is fine. I've even switched out video cards to see if this would solve the problem but appearantly not. This only seems to happen when my res. is set to 1024 x 768.
Any ideas? I'm wondering if these cards simply don't support this resolution but are able to put up with it for extended periods until they crash. Thanks, Wanabe |

I'm pretty sure that it's a Trio S3 AGP.

WOW! I don't think those things can hold up to that kind of resolution, can they? goto http://www.S3graphics.com and download the latest driver. And it might also be that your monitor doesn't support that kind of resolution. Really if the display deconstructs that way, that might be the problem.

a 2 meg Trio will support 1024x768 at max 16 bit color - a 4 meg will support 1024x768 true color 24 or 32 bit.
The Trio is an inexpensive chipset with no 3D support - you can get an 8 meg ATI Xpert 98 for about $30 that will blow that S3 card into the weeds. If that Trio is an onboard chip and your machine has no AGP slot - that's a different story......... |

I think your on to something glc. I have the AGP 2meg Trio. But I think I may be trying run it at 24bit color. I can't confirm this since this computer is at work.
Thanks! |
