Please review this system

OK, I know that there are a hundred of these threads, but I couldn't find one that had the same components as these, so if any of you could just take a quick peak and tell me if anything is amiss, that would be awesome!

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 512KB L2 Cache, Socket 939 64-bit Processor - Retail Newegg

MOBO: SUS "A8V Deluxe" VIA K8T800 Pro Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU -RETAIL Newegg

Memory: Corsair Value Select Dual Kits 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail Newegg

PSU: Thermaltake Silent PurePower, 420W ATX Newegg

GPU: EVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Video Card, 128MB DDR3, 128-Bit Newegg

Optical: Lite-On Black 52X32X52X16 Combo Drive, Model SOHC-5232K, Newegg

HDD: Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD800JD, OEM Newegg

I already have a monitor, and I am trying to keep this below $800, its about $750 now with shipping. I might add a second optical at a later date, so should I get a different drive than that?

Thanks

personally i think this would be a good sturdy system. I see nothing wrong with it, although please give the system the right to a sweet cse with lots of window space, and lots of neat lighting effects.

Looks like a nice system to me....at least I don't see any glaring incompatibilities. As for that optical drive, if you're wanting a combo drive with all the capabilities of that one you listed, you're probably not going to find one cheaper in price than a Lite-On. At least not one that is a decent performer that won't break down in the first month of use. Lite-On makes pretty good optical drives and they're usually one of the cheapest money-wise too, so I wouldn't know any other manufacturer to recommend that would still keep you under your target budget.

I haven't heard too many great things about that Lite-On combo drive. If you want a combo drive I'd go with an LG.

Here's a LITE-ON Dual layer DVDRW. If you don't need a DVDRW immediately, it's best to upgrade as late as possible so you get the newest technology available. I personally prefer two optical drives to allow for easier CD/DVD copying. Two drives also allow one to use the RW as a large capacity floppy, and the other as a disc reader so as to not disturb the one acting like the floppy.

Which case are you thinking about? So far I really like your system. I agree that it should be reasonably powerful and stable. Good luck w/ your build!

I have used the lite-on. Its ok.
For Dual Layer upgrade, and it will cost a lot, I suggest getting the TDK 1616N (NEC2500/2510 chipset). Even better there is the NEC 3500. NEC chipsets offer the most compatibility. Stay away from sony. They can be abit picky on media.

Thanks for the replies, awesome. The case I would like is the thermaltake tsunami black, Newegg however that will come in quite a while because I am using most of the money on parts and I already have a boring case that will have to do for now.

Also, I thought that I would wait until I get more money to buy a dvd burner as an upgrade, so that is why I went with a combo drive so I can watch movies on my computer in the meantime. Thanks for the combo recommendation, ill take a look at all the suggestions.
