Mobo Problem
Well this is my first build. I just bought an Epox 8KDA Series motherboard and an AMD 64 3000+. I had also bought a hard drive but it didnt come in at the same time as the other stuff so i tried everything out with an old hard drive i had and it worked fine. Then when my new hard drive came in i set it up just like i did with my old one and the hard drive, processor fan, and the cd drive doesnt power up when i have the hard drive cables pluged in. So i tried unplugging the hard drive cables and just left the power cables in, and the cd drive and hard drive powers up but the cpu fan doesnt. Also the Graphic card doesnt seem to have power going to it because my monitor never clicks on. Could someone help me on this? Im pretty sure i have everything hooked up right and ive checked over and over for like 2 weeks.

my best bet would be that you need to have a bigger PSU(power supply unit), if you are running lights and fans on that, you may need to have a larger one like at 350W+. Other than that, i would suggest looking at EVERYTHING. Try running another computer with the new hard drive if you can. Try Changing the PSUs, if you can. Try to test everything possible.

My power supply is 420 watts so thats good. I tried another thats 350 watts and it did the same thing. Also i tried the new hard drive on another pc and it worked fine..
oh and why would the hard drive and cd drive power up when i take the cables out on them and just leave the power cables in? Last edited by Mike869; 01-22-2005 at 09:34 AM. |
