32 or 64 bit system
I'm looking into building a new computer but haven't been keeping up with the new tech since 2001 when I built my last pc. the main thing that we use it for is the internet, pictures, and some games. I don't need anything great but I want it to last a few years and if the new software that will be coming out will need 64 bit i want to get it if it will be worth it. I will be using a win XP o/s. If anyone has any suggestions on mobo, processor, etc. i would greatly appreciate them.

I will be critiziced by some if I told you that your obvious answer is an AMD-based processor (Athlon 64/FX).
If you want something for a long-term, don't think it anymore. WinXP 64 will be released on April, so better be future-proof when choosing your processor. As a personal thought, I'll go all the way with an Athlon 64. |

64 bit processors are safe bets if you can afford them.
You don't need 64 bit software in the next couple years to make them effective. At worst they're simply "AS" effective at meeting consumer needs as 32 bit processors. |
