New Fan Holes
I've been thinking about making some spots along the bottom of my side window for mabye a series of small intake fans. Does anybody have any links to a good site that will show me how to measure the spot, and how to drill the holes for the fans? Thanks?
P.S. I know I ask a lot of questions, but I'm curious and like to know all my options before I take a specific course.

How small would the fans be? The smaller the fan, the noisier it is...and the shorter the lifespan.

I measured the space I want to cut and it's approz 70mm tall. So I'm thinking with some squeezing, I could fit some 60mm Vantec Stealth fans into the space; or is my measuring flawed? Most probably however I will go with 2-4 40mm or 50mm fans, and see if I can hook them up to the fan controller on the front of my computer.
That is also one of my side questions. On my psu, there are 2 wires, one red one black, leading from my psu to my 5.25" fan controller to adjust the speed of my power supply fans. Is it at all possible to somehow connect any other case fans to these wires, so they all use the same controller? |

Before you decide to mod the best thing you could do is get the demensions of the fans you plan to use.
Next start of when you decide on the fan is to pick the location as you have then it's just a mater of layout... I recommend some painters blue masking tape and tape off the portion of the case you plan to mod...Next just set the fans on their and trace them out. If you don't like the location you can erase and do over... Once decided just measure the inside of the fan and buy a holesaw and drill bit for the fan screws and your in business....course you'll need a drill.... With a successful plan of attack 2 hole can be cut and finished in 10-20 minutes...add another 10 for 2 more....enjoy

Alright. Thanks for the info. I was hoping it would be that simple.
Now does anybody have any suggestions for hooking them up to my fan controller or will I need to get a second controller just for those fans? |

If you have an empty spot or two you can hook them up to the controler you have now....As long as you don't exceed the rated watage you can put the fans together with a splitter 2 into 1 or 4 into 2

Well there is only one knob and that's for the psu fan, so I guess I'll just pick up a 3.5" 4 fan controller later when I get the money. I should be able to plan out the holes this weekend and order around then. If all goes well I should have the fans installed and working by next weekend.

You know I alway use 2 92mm fans down low in the window side... I never even given a thought to some small 40-50 or 60mm fans like 4 in a row on the bottom....that might just look pretty tricked out...good luck

For the fans themselves I saw some 40mm blue LED fans on xoxide.com. I'm thinking of going with them. Only problem will be finding a new place for my second black light.
Also should I use these fans as intakes or exhaust? Right now I have an 80mm in front of my hard drives as in intake, a 80mm as an exhaust in the middle of my window, and an Enermax exhause fan right under my video card (this one http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProduc...888-003&depa=0 ). Also I have the two exhaust fans on my psu right over my processor. I'm thinking of making them intakes to help get some cool air (ambiant room temp of around 60F) into the case. As it heats up, it will rise and be sucked out by the side fan. This should get a nice breeze going in my case am I correct? |

Hey.
All cases are different and some have different Ideas about what works...I would say your on the right track but, you'll have to experiment on what works and what does not... Heres what works for me... I only have 2 case fans (92mm) mounted down low on the bottom of the window side as intakes... I let the power supply do all the exhaust and I have a volcano 9 cpu h/s and fan right now with Mother Board Monitor 5 my case temp is 20 deg and north bridge is 26 deg and cpu is 33 deg celcius... all my pc's are set up this way and seems to work best for me... too many fans may make temps flux? |

Grrr......I looked inside my case at where I was planning to drill, and there is a rail inside that keeps the side panel from falling off when the screws aren't on. I'm getting really fed up with this case. I'm probably going to end up getting a new one.

Hey no fret...
If you have a window in that side just cut the holes in the window!!! This takes more time, to be careful not to crack the plexi-glass/lexan Thats why they call it Modding...It's to your creation.... I do both my daughters like this and mine are up in the window with the window being the full size of the panel... |

I can't really do it in the window. The window is in an X shape, so any holes would be half on the window and half on the case.

What I do is cut the "X" out and remove the center fan....run down to the local hardware store and get a new peice if plexi-glass and mod that.... that way you'll have a clear veiw with no obstructions...but you can always do whatever you like...

I may do that, as the plexiglass is still in one intact, big piece (I think). After school I'll go take some pictures of the case.
