Switching hard drives.
Is it possible to take a hard drive out of one pc and put it in another one without formating it. Basically plug and play? Both pc`s are using 98se.

I don't know about Windows 98, but assuming its a FAT filesystem I don't see why not. I know with XP you are able too, but perhaps that is one of the improvements that I don't know of, seeing as how I lack any real time using Windows 98. It couldn't hurt to try, just set the jumpers right(to master and slave or I guess cable select could work) and boot, if it doesn't work, then at least ya tried. That's my take on it at least.

Yes it is... Just pop the drive out of the old system and stick it in the new one. If you are planning on using the drive as a secondary drive, the you just jumper it as slave, or cable select, and your good to go... If you want to use it as your primary drive, it will work, but it won't be pretty, as none of the drivers on your old drive will match the hardware in the new computer.

This is the way to move a Win98 drive, assuming you are talking about the OS drive, not just a second data drive. A data drive can be moved with no preparation. |

Stick the hard drive into the other one and boot it to safe mode, then remove the enum key, reboot, and follow the procedure.
